The auditory sense is an important way for children to explore the world. As part of their sensory development, students become aware of different sounds around them. Our K2 children have limitless curiosity for the world around them and they keeping discovering new sounds. They said sound is wonderful and mysterious. How can we hear things? How does sound transmit? Can we find a way to see sounds? K2-Q’s children started to explore different types of sounds.
Where does sound come from? Let's knock, hit, clap. So many ways things let out sounds. What kind of sounds does nature have? We find that different objects can have different sounds. Plastic buckets have a low and deep sound, while leaves could make a gentle rustling sound.
What if two items are hit together? What reaction will they have? Will they change their own sound? And then, children started to tap leaves with a branch, scratch an iron frame with leaves. They are amazed by the changes in sound. How interesting it is!
Under teachers’ guidance the children prepared eight glass bottles; filled with water, from smallest to largest. The height difference is 2 centimeters in turn. Here we have our music box. The clear and deep sounds make a cheerful rhythm of winter.
The children gathered around to inspect the "music box." When the little box is struck lightly with a drum stick ,it makes a tinkling sound. The children play music on the bottles the sounds are as lovely as the children!
We have already made some sounds, what else shall we use to make sound?Do you remember the rattles from your childhood? We made our own rattles. First, the children painted two paper plates with their favorite colors and then put them together to make a drum surface. Then they poked a small hole in both sides threaded string through the holes and tied bells on the ends. Finally, they painted decorations on their paper plates. The homemade rattle drums made sounds like " tong tong tong ". When the children play their rattle they feel extremely happy and proud of their creation!
Angel's children are curious and adventurous and they gain wisdom and knowledge from their curiosity. These activities guided the children to start with familiar sounds from nature; to discover and to sense sounds. The children then explored the cause of sound and how it is generated, igniting a creative spark.
